Enhancing Collaboration Readiness for Effective Academia–Industry Matching

Enhancing Collaboration Readiness for Effective Academia–Industry Matching

Within the BEAGLE project, University West (HV) contributes by advancing the understanding of how academia–industry collaborations can be improved before they formally begin.

A central focus of HV’s work is the concept of collaboration readiness, defined as the extent to which organisations are strategically, structurally, and cognitively prepared to engage in value-creating partnerships. Rather than evaluating collaborations only after they are formed, HV emphasises the importance of assessing preparedness ex ante.

Using data from the BEAGLE innovation marketplace particularly Video Fact Sheets (VFS)—HV is developing and validating a structured measurement framework that captures key dimensions of readiness, including:

Strategic alignment

Resource and capability availability

Governance structures

Communication and transparency

Innovation orientation

This work complements BEAGLE’s VFS matching process by providing a deeper understanding of why some collaborations are more likely to succeed than others. While matching identifies potential fit between actors, collaboration readiness explains whether organizations are capable of translating that fit into effective cooperation.

Through this contribution, HV supports BEAGLE’s broader mission to improve the quality of cross-sector collaboration, reduce coordination failures, and enhance the impact of innovation ecosystems across Europe.
