How BEAGLE Is Addressing Key Challenges in Knowledge Valorisation 

Every year, universities and research organisations generate valuable knowledge, innovative technologies, and promising ideas. Yet many of these results never reach businesses, public organisations, or communities that could benefit from them. 

This challenge is at the heart of the BEAGLE project. 

As a partner in BEAGLE, the University of West Bohemia (UWB) contributes not only to project activities, but also to the research behind them. Our work helps identify and better understand some of the key challenges that continue to limit effective knowledge valorisation across Europe. 

One of these challenges is understanding how research is transformed into real-world impact. While many innovation frameworks focus on outcomes, much less attention has been paid to the processes that connect knowledge creation with practical application. Through BEAGLE, we are helping to explore how these processes can be strengthened and made more effective. 

Another important challenge lies in collaboration itself. Universities, companies, innovation intermediaries, and other stakeholders often share common goals, but successful cooperation requires more than simply bringing people together. BEAGLE investigates how co-creation can be structured to support the development of innovative solutions and new opportunities for value creation. 

The project also explores how Blue Ocean Strategy can be applied beyond its traditional business context. By combining strategic thinking with cross-sector collaboration, BEAGLE encourages participants to identify unmet needs, discover new opportunities, and develop innovative pathways for knowledge utilisation. The project places particular emphasis on disruptive innovations that challenge established market rules by better addressing customer needs—through lower costs without compromising quality, higher value at a comparable price, or by creating entirely new customer groups and market opportunities. 

For UWB, participation in BEAGLE is an opportunity to contribute to a broader understanding of how research can generate societal and economic value. The insights emerging from the project will help inform future approaches to knowledge valorisation, supporting stronger connections between research, innovation, and society across Europe. 

By addressing these challenges, BEAGLE is helping to create a future in which valuable knowledge is more effectively transformed into a meaningful impact.
